AIETI MEDICAL SCHOOL: A quick guide for foreign students
AIETI Medical School is one and only leading non-government medical school in Georgia. It is the only medical institute in Georgia where the courses are based on programme of USMLE (USMedical Licensing Exam) and taught following strictly English books for all students. Oral exams are conducted regularly after completion of each topic followed by monthly computer based multiple choice questions (MCQs) test covering the taught subjects of that period. At the end of each academic year, students have to appear in the final exam (again based in MCQs model covering the subjects taught in whole year).
First two years are the most difficult period for students in AIETI but there is no need to panic. Since students from South Asian countries are all too familiar with tough workload during study and subsequent examinations in schools, AIETI study model is just about the right platform to follow up and enhance ones knowledge in medicine. Studying the topic thoroughly once by text books adopted by AIETI and then revising before monthly tests using small revision books(Such as National medical series(NMS) and Board Review Series(BRS) books) and practicing MCQ tests(Pre-Test) is the best approach to deal with any AIETI quiz(test).
Third year is a significant year for students in AIETI as it marks the end of Basic Medical Sciences studies and beginning of studies in Clinical Subjects. In the middle of third academic year, students appear in a major examination (MCQ model) called "Filter" with questions covering all subjects taught in Basic Sciences.
After successfully completing the exam (Filter), students enter into Clinical studies where they start to be accustomed with day to day hospital practices. Students attend different departments of various hospitals within the city during the clinical years. With more emphasis on clinical practice the burden of study gets relatively lighter for students in these years. Secondly, students have to face another important exam (MCQs model) at the end of 5th year (2nd Filter) where questions will be asked from clinical subjects. Final year is the year ofclinical clerkship (internship) in various hospitals in Georgia and also students have opportunity to attend clinical practices in Lithuania, EU. (Klaipeda University Hospital). At the end of sixth year, students have to appear in final Georgian State Examination (Oral examination conducted under the supervision of Georgian state, involves questions from clinical sciences).
So, in short AIETI study program and subsequent exams can be summarized as:
On successful completion of AIETI, the students will be more than capable to undertake USMLE exams.
